Here are 5 Tips to Create Compelling CTAs
1. Be Interesting
Grab your reader’s interest by offering something that solves their problem immediately
Something that they really want…
2. Be Direct
Have you ever seen a “click button” on a website that says:
”Please click on this button to maybe buy something you might like”
Nope…the button usually says,
Shop Here…Buy Now…or Book Today!
So make it short, simple, and strong…be DIRECT.
3. Use Power Words
As you may already know from my previous blog (click here if you missed it) Power words are one of the “secret sauce ingredients” in killer sales messages.
And when it comes to CTAs…It’s a MUST!
It has been scientifically proven to compel people to take action…words like Free, Because, Instantly, and New are extremely compelling in any copy.
4. Hint At Urgency
“Read This Now…Before It’s Taken Off The Internet - Only 3 Hours Left…Hurry!”
Yes I know I went overboard with this one…but did it work?
This is a very powerful psychological technique…you might have seen it written something like this…
Hurry before everything is GONE! Spring Sale NOW ON!
You will never…ever…ever read,
Spring Sale On!…take your time and come and get some clothes when you feel like it or when you have enough money…no hurry…no worry.
Why will you never see this? (Except maybe in a Rick and Morty episode) You will never see this in advertising because…Delay is a sales killer!
You need to create…FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) Do this through scarcity i.e. limited time/or edition and good old-fashioned peer pressure.
This tip will improve your conversion rates by making your reader feel like they could miss out on an opportunity if they don’t comply right away.
5. Remove All Risk
When something is easy to do or buy your reader is MUCH MORE LIKELY TO BUY.
Companies like Amazon have perfected this: “1-click” buying process.
Also…Offer a Compelling Guarantee.
You might have seen guarantees such as…Full 30-day money-back guarantee.
I’ve seen a company offer a 2-year money-back guarantee on a book…a book! And guess what…they made millions because they removed the risk with a very compelling guarantee.
Another very popular phrase that has disrupted many industries…Cancel anytime (RIP contracts).
And finally…
Where do you put a CTA?
A few will put it at the beginning of their sales copy, some will put it in the middle,
but even if you use the first two methods…
You MUST put it at the end of anything you’re selling.
Here’s a pro tip…(and TO BE USED WITH CAUTION)
You can place many CTAs throughout your copy. Now, I don’t mean flashing red and yellow buttons all over your website or emails (sometimes it works, but no.)
Simply put multiple CTAs in key positions throughout your copy…
Let your copy flow naturally into the “Buy Now” or “Book Today” button and you’re good to go.
